Daddy's maternal grandmother was a full blood
Choctaw.
They said she was a nice, sweet person,
unless you
made her mad.
In that case she was the meanest woman
you've ever seen.
This rings true with what I've read about the
people.
I'm a little bit that way myself!
Compassionate People
In 1847 the Choctaw tribe learned of the hardship facing the
Irish people. The memory of being driven from their lands into
famine echoed in their hearts and they raised the incredible
sum of $710,
and sent it to Ireland, along with corn and other
foods.

Romantic People
When a young (25-30 year old) Choctaw man decided he was
ready to marry, he chose a young (20-25) woman and visited her
home when he was sure both she and her parents would be there.
During a casual chat with her parents, he would toss a pebble
at his potential new wife. If she tossed it back, they were engaged.
If not, she gave him "that look" and left the room.
He knew then that he had been rejected.

Valorous People
Near the end of World War I, in 1918, the Germans had
broken every code the American military had used. Eight
Choctaw men were shifted from their posts, one to each field
company headquarters. These men were labeled "Code
Talkers" and all subsequent messages were sent in the native
Choctaw language. This caused the German code breakers
to "flip their wigs". Within 24 hours the tide of the battle
turned, in less than 72 hours the Germans were retreating and
the Allies were on full attack.

I am proud to be a Choctaw!
